Day 29. Monday, 21 Feb...Snowing & Sunny Prague...

Remember this is a blog & it updates backwards! Go to the bottom and find the first post if you want to get the gist of this in sequence...

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Well, It was a perfect day for me to-day. Prague snowed while we walked in it & then while we were inside having a hot wine, the sun came out & stayed out all day...First fully sunny day they've had in 3 weeks they say.
It snowed, rather big flakes until about 11.30 am. 3 of us from the Hostel set out to do the 3 hour walking trip around Prague, but we missed the 11 am session & had to "kill time" until the 2pm session.

I'll say no more, other than, I think they make every chandelier in the world here!
I've seen so many different shapes, sizes, types etc, I can't count.
Will label the pics tomorrow.

Need I say any more???

Ahhhh...Bliss

Snowing , out side my bedroom window!

We went out in it anyways! Frank & Me on way to The Old City, Prague

Coming into the Old City, Prague...

A few more crystal shops to pass on the way!

Snowing, but fun. Priscilla, a Brazilian girl, Frank a Dutch man trying to take pics!

Don't say there's no pics of me...They'll all look the same, as I only have one coat & scarf! Prague Castle in the background.

I thought Priscilla (who lives in London & invited me to stay) looks like Kate Middleton here & Frank looks like the body guard. Actually, he is a cop, cum security guard now!

Just some nice buildings in Old Prague...

A nice floating Restaurant in Prague, on the way to the old city. Snowing of course!

A nice sun deck...Like the spelling of Matilda! See the ducks on Centre right?

Restoration work on one of the 30 or so bridges in Prague.

An old tower, on way to old City.

The real cobblestones. Every blooming street is paved with these. I wore out my new boots in 10 kms of walking on these! Had to get new heels on them this arvo!

Massive Pretzels, on yr table in the bars!

Look at the old brass/bronze /copper distillery dome over the register area!

Frank & I having a warm up!

Can you believe there is soooo much crystal? So many colours too.

Frank & Priscilla i the pub.

Now you're talking my language(s)!

Prague, Old City Centre. Astronomical Clock Tower on Left.

Now, this stuff, became my fav drink & on my 2nd last day too!. Hot, spiced Wine!...on the streets, you can buy it & drink it as you wander around!!!

The Astronomical clock actually has 3 time zone areas on it's face. A Zodiac, a 24 hr clock & some other ancient time thing. The guy who made it 500 yrs or so ago, had people coming from all over the world to see the mechanisms tha made it go. The town controllers at the time figured it was such a money spinner, they gouged out his eyes with hot pokers & cut ogg his tougue so he couldn't tell anyone how it was made! Nice...

The 2 little widows still open on the hour, every hour, & the 12 apostles appear, each one giving a special blessing to the people below! Quaint...but it denotes just how religious or spiritually orientated the whole of Central Europe was. It's 85 % Catholic here in Checz. to-day, after communism has gone.

The Town Centre

Note the 2 towers. One was built 500 yrs ago & they ran out of money. So, eventually the other was completed about 100 yrs ago!

The Blue Roofed Palace where King Charles? (Charles Bridge)was born. It's a house & is about 700 years old.

The Wedding Cake, as westerners call it.

Lots of spires here. I found Old Prague has lots of colourful buildings. Frankfurt & Vienna are all one or 2 similar colours, Budapest are all dirty grey & need a good gurney down, but Prague out does all previous cities by being game enough to be different & experiment with many different pastel shades you really don't see elsewhere. Many different types of architecture too. I'm very pleasantly surprised!

Nice clean cut lines on this one, but a shade of pastel on the accents.

The Music Hall.

The Prague Castle, high up on the hill. A trip for tomorrow.

In the Jewish Quarter. 70,000 jews had to live in this area of about a few hundred sq meters. It was a swamp & flooded all the time. This is their Old Town Hall, with 2 clocks. Western & Hebrew. The bottom clock has Hebrew numerals & goes backwards!

On the hill in the distance is a Metronome. It's a perpetual motion symbol, meaning that even tho Stalin & communism have gone, time goes on !

The Spanish Synagogue. The Jews built it in thanks & appreciation of the Moores(Muslim) people who befriended them over the years in some country.

Outa my way buddy!

The St Nichalaus Church in Prague Square.
